Charles Darwin

1809年02月12日 — 1882年04月19日 (Age73岁)
Birthplace:Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England Resting Place:Westminster Abbey, London, England
Charles Robert Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, on February 12, 1809 — the very same day as Abraham Lincoln. He initially studied medicine at Edinburgh but found surgery distressing, and later prepared for the clergy at Cambridge.

In 1831, he embarked on HMS Beagle for what became a five-year voyage around the world. His observations of finches in the Galápagos Islands, fossils in South America, and coral reefs planted the seeds of his evolutionary theory.

For over 20 years, Darwin meticulously gathered evidence before publishing "On the Origin of Species" in 1859. The book revolutionized biology by explaining how all species, including humans, arise through natural selection over millions of years.

He continued to write prolifically, publishing works on barnacles, orchids, earthworms, and his beloved "The Descent of Man." Despite chronic illness, his scientific rigor never wavered.

Darwin was buried in Westminster Abbey near Newton, fittingly for one who revolutionized our understanding of life itself.
"It is not the strongest that survives, but the most adaptable"

Those Galápagos finches — such a simple observation leading to such a profound theory. Science at its most elegant.

The fact that Darwin and Lincoln were born on the same day — February 12, 1809 — always gives me chills.

He waited over 20 years to publish his theory, refining and gathering evidence. The patience of a true scientist.

Darwin's work on earthworms was as meticulous as his work on evolution. He found wonder in everything he studied.
